Commodity nomenclature code
The TARIC code consists of ten digits. It is based on the Harmonized System (HS) code and the Combined Nomenclature (CN)
10-digit goods code (8 digits of CN code + 2 digits of TARIC code)
- the first two digits indicate one of the 21 product sections,
- the third and fourth digits identify the chapter within the section,the third and fourth digits are the department designation in a given section,
- the fifth and sixth digits are the HS code subheading designation,
- the seventh and eighth digits are the CN subheading designation,
- ninth, tenth is the TARIC code.
HS and CN codes – what are the differences between them?
HS Code
- The Harmonized System (HS) was developed by the Commission of the Customs Cooperation Council.
- It consists of six digits, which are also the first six digits of the CN code.
CN code
- The Combined Nomenclature (CN) is 8 digits.
- The nomenclature was developed by the Commission of the European Communities and is based on the HS code.
